4 Days / 3 Nights Guided Hiking Tour in the Miners Range
 Miners Range and Ibex Mountain
In a matter of minutes the capital City of Whitehorse can be left behind and the breath-taking perfection of the Yukon wilderness will surround you. The Miners Range to the North and the Ibex Mountains south of the world famous Alaska Highway offer endless views painted across the landscape. Wildlife can be seen in the Miners Range quite often. Dall Sheep, Moose, Bears, Elk, Bald Eagles and Wolves co-exist in the pristine wild of the Yukon. Good binoculars and photo equipment is strongly recommended.
Day  Itinerary
01
Upon arrival in Whitehorse, your guide will give you an orientation and outline your visit in the Yukon Territory. After a city tour and the last shopping we drive to our ranch. Located 25 km north of Whitehorse near Takhini Hotsprings we will stay here for the next few days. Overnight accommodation in charming cabins with two bedrooms, wood heating stove, private bath and scenic view of the Takhini Valley and Ibex Mountains. Daily we start to explore the hidden treasures of the Miners Range to the North and the Ibex Mountains to the south. Depending on the group’s ability we hike daily between 3 - 7 hours. Weight is not a concern as we only have a light backpack for the day. Lunch and stops will be held occasionally. Our naturalist guide explains the flora and fauna and has many stories to tell about living in the north. Every night we return to our cozy cabins and enjoy a delicious dinner. Today we start out with a short hike to get acclimated. The Miners Range Trail starts right from the ranch and follows to the north. After a couple of minutes we reach a beautiful little lake and wander through wild valleys where we look for a perfect place for a rest. From here we often see the white Dallsheep and you are lucky with good binoculars. The Tour can be extent up to 8 hours and covers the hole Flat Mountain (6338 ft.) and Pilot Mountain (6738 ft.) Area.
02
After a hearty breakfast we follow a old surveyor road, the cutoff from a part of the Old Alaska Highway (build in 1942) to the Ibex Mountain Trailhead, the start of our first full day hiking tour. You will be astonished with the utterly wild and remarkable country you’re immersed in. We hike past Scout and Cub Lake to the Ibex River. Big, deep crevices occur where it seems, the earth suddenly splits in two. Along the trail, we pass several huge granite boulders and we may catch a glimpse of the snow white Dall Sheep, which frequent the crags and precipices hanging over the valley. The top of Ibex Mountain offers magnificent views of the Ibex Mountain chain, Mount Ingram and the Ibex Valley. The Southern Tutchone called the Valley Kàkwänt'änägru which means "chasing animals into snares". Back on the trailhead we drive to our cabins, enjoy a hot shower and a delicious dinner. In the evening swim and warm up your body in the Takhini Hotsprings.
03
Today we are ready for a new adventure. We hike the most historical part of the "Trans Canada Trail". Locals call him the "Old Dawson Trail". A ten minute drive takes us to the Trailhead at Takhini Crossing. The trail follows the old winter route to the Goldfields on the Klondike. The Dawson Overland Trail was constructed in 1902 as the first road to Dawson City from Whitehorse. While the Yukon River handled most of the summer traffic, the overland route handled most of the winter traffic. Many of the houses that were on the Old Road still stand today. This trail was used by stage coaches and sleighs drawn by horses in the early days. We will see some of the old artifacts from the great 1898 Goldrush. We return to the trailhead and drive back to our cabins. Tonight, we enjoy our last dinner together. In the evening you may want to go for a horseback ride or sit around the campfire.
04
In the morning we bring you back to Whitehorse where your trip ends.
